Extruded Nylons

The extrusion process limits achievable sizes and weights of semi-finished shapes used to machine parts. As a result, except for small parts nylon 6/6 is often replaced by the less expensive cast nylon 6.

Nylon 6/6 Natural

Extruded nylon 6/6 is used for small parts requiring the mechanical performance of nylon. Nylon 6/6 offers a slightly higher hardness and wear resistance than cast nylon 6. It also has a higher melting point than cast nylon grades. However, Nylon 6/6 is significantly more expensive and has a higher moisture absorption rate.
Nylon 6/6 Natural stock shapes used for Timco fabricated parts are FDA compliant. Typical applications for extruded 6/6 parts would include friction bearings, sliding panels, electrical insulators and food contact parts.

Nylon 6/6 Black

Extruded nylon 6/6 with black pigment added is also used only for parts of a smaller size. It has the same mechanical and electrical properties of Nylon 6/6 Natural but it is not FDA compliant.

Nylon 6/6 MO

This material is extruded nylon 6/6 with molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) added to enhance wear and bearing properties. It offers improved strength, rigidity and a lower coefficient of linear thermal expansion than unmodified nylon 6/6. Parts machined from Nylon 6/6 MO hold their tolerances better and are less likely to seize when used as bearings.
